A prototype device for treating type 1 diabetes that constantly measures blood sugar levels and supplies the correct amount of insulin has been tested by 17 children at a Cambridge hospital. The technology currently requires a nurse to program the insulin delivery device, but raises the possibility of fully automatic control of diabetes in the not-too-distant future.
